My grandparents, Blanche and Artie, were married for 75 years and played nearly every week. It was their thing. The cards came out, the table filled up, and the same arguments about if it's too risky to open a Joker canasta happened every single time.

Fast forward a few decades to COVID. After binging every reality show and finishing every bottle of wine, we needed a new activity, so my parents taught us canasta. What started as a way to pass the time quickly became a regular ritual. And yes, there’s still the occasional mid-game call to my grandmother Blanche when no one can remember if the threes count. She usually knows.

These days the game looks a little different. The table is usually filled with friends somewhere between school drop-off and everything else on the calendar, the competition is just as serious, and the rules are still occasionally debated.

But the cards? They always felt stuck in another era, old designs, flimsy decks, and accessories that didn’t match the energy around the table.

So we created The Card Room.

A modern take on a classic game. Better cards, better racks, and accessories designed to bring modern design to the table.

Because some traditions are worth keeping. They just deserve better design.
